Avoid casting shadows on band layers, such as foregrounds with buildings/mountains, etc. On the Shadow Settings tab, set the following settings: <Face>, <Edge>. 
When the floor is unplaned and at a position above or below βz0β, shadows may be cast in an odd way, check this out
